Introduction to BearHotel

I started taking intimate private portraits of my friends a few years ago but despite them loving the results (or at least telling me they loved them) they were mostly shy guys who didn’t want nudes out there in the interwebs. Fair enough.

However it turns out that the empowering nature of taking a guy who isn’t that confident in his looks and showing him that with the right lens, some flattering lighting and a tweak in Photoshop he could be amazed how good he could look is actually really addictive. In Spring 2017 I decided to try to recruit some less shy guys to pose for me and to launch something more public - the project that what was to become BearHotel had begun. I’m really grateful to the first few guys who took a leap of faith and sat for me without really knowing what it was all about - Michal, Jakob and Glen I owe you one.

I knew from the beginning what I wanted the project to be - deadly serious about it’s body positivity, racial diversity, with transguys and disabled men who are often ignored by the mainstream visible, and to have a spread of ages and types - but also I really wanted it be fun and really sexy. Empowerment through erotica, I wonder if that’s really possible!!!?? I hope it’s a juggling act I’ve managed to balance, although I’m always struggling to find bigger fellas, older guys and more disabled men - if you know of anyone please give them a nudge in my direction. I really love the idea of this mythical hotel with a handsome man waiting in every room. This concept gave me lots of imagery to play with and the keys, hotel questions and room numbers just give it a little extra interest and richness. Sexy men in hotel rooms is such a simple idea but I think it really works.
